About the Maine Council-ASF
The Maine Council of the Atlantic Salmon Federation (MC-ASF), is comprised of 16 different angling, conservation, education and watershed organizations from across the state that share a passion for protecting wild Atlantic salmon and our other native sea-run fish species. The MC-ASF is a non-profit 501(c)(3) organization. Our accomplishments include:
- Defeat of the Proposed Basin Mills Dam on the Penobscot River
- Removal of Obsolete Dams from the Little River, Souadabscook Stream and Pleasant River
- Construction of a Rock-and-Pool Fishway at Leonard's Mills on Blackman Stream
- Removal of the Edwards Dam and Support for the Continued Restoration of the Kennebec River
- Federal Protection and Funding for Endangered Gulf of Maine Distinct Population Segment of Wild Atlantic Salmon
- Fish Passage Requirements on the Saco and Kennebec Rivers
- Support for the Penobscot River Restoration Project
- Improved Water Use Planning and Management for the Downeast Salmon Rivers
- Support for Local Salmon Hatchery Programs Across Maine
- Educating Thousands of Maine School Children About Atlantic Salmon Through Our Fish Friends Program
